Essential Tax Deadlines for February 2026

February is here and so are crucial tax deadlines for 2026. In this overview, we'll guide you through estimated tax payment options, tip reporting obligations, and W-4 exemption updates.

February 2 - Estimated Tax Payments

If you missed paying your estimated tax installment by January 15, you still have an option to file your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040 or 1040-SR) by February 2. By doing so and clearing any tax dues by January 31, you'll avoid penalties on your last installment. Should you need more time, remember the final deadline is April 15.

February 10 - Reporting Tips for Employees

Earned over $20 in tips during January? It's time to report them to your employer. You can use IRS Form 4070 or prepare a personalized statement that includes your details—signature, name, address, Social Security number, your employer’s name and address, the report's month or period, and the received tips total.

Employers are obligated to withhold both FICA taxes and income tax from these tips. If your regular wages don't cover these withholdings, the balance will be noted in box 8 of your W-2, and you'll need to settle it when you file your return.

February 17 - W-4 Withholding Exemption Renewal

If you claimed an exemption from withholding on last year's W-4, remember to submit a new form to your employer by February 17 to maintain your exemption.
